CEO Neil Schimmel Hosts Exclusive Investor Forum in Portland

Investors Management Group, Inc. hosted an invitation-only forum event connecting multifamily investors with tax, real estate and economic experts on Wednesday, March 7th at Bridgeport Brew Pub in Portland, Oregon. The 5:30pm panel discussed the impact of the new tax laws and rising interest rates, plus where investors could find multifamily investment opportunities in 2018. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, wine, and award-winning local pints were served.

Moderator: Karlin Conklin, Principal, Investors Management Group, Inc.

Karlin has more than 18 years of experience in multifamily real estate and has transactional volume exceeding $1.2 billion. She has sourced, capitalized and helped in the repositioning of 6,500 multifamily units, raising $300 million in equity from institutional partners, Tenant-In-Common (TIC) investors and high net worth individuals. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, with an emphasis in Public Relations, and an MBA from the University of Oregon.

Timothy A. Kalberg, CPA/Shareholder, Perkins & Co

Tim has significant experience in all areas of tax planning and compliance work for a variety of closely-held businesses and their owners. He has worked with all types of entities from partnerships and limited liability companies to REITs and private equity funds, to S and C corporations. Tim’s particular specialty (and passion) is in the real estate and construction industries. His experience with real estate developers and owners includes budgeting and forecasting, income and cash flow projections, lease analyses, deal structuring, tax deferred exchanges, cost segregation, troubled debt restructuring, tangible property regulations, and other specialized services.

Tim discussed how new tax rules impact investors in real estate, including treatment for depreciation, timelines for holding, and more.

Christian Kaylor, Economist, Oregon Employment Department

Christian Kaylor is a Workforce Economist for the Oregon Employment Department. He has broad knowledge of national economic factors; however, his focus is on providing in-depth analysis of the Portland and SW Washington area. He provides data and analysis relating to the Portland economy to local businesses, business associations and government agencies to facilitate intelligent decision making. His monthly newsletter on the Portland economy has over 800 subscribers. A native Oregonian, Christian worked in various positions in Oregon politics and policy before joining the Employment Department eighteen years ago.
